Metaphor and Narrative
in Group

This workshop includes a didactic and
experiential component as a means of understanding and utilizing
metaphor and narrative in creative change in groups. An emphasis
will be placed on how metaphor and narrative shape and promote
growth and resistance in groups.

Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1. Have a fuller understanding of what
metaphors are, how they shape therapeutic discourse, and their
application to groups.
2. Attend to the metaphors used by group members, and how this can
be used to develop a working hypothesis about group functioning.
3. Differentiate a variety of love stories used by group members,
how these love stories can be used defensively and/or creatively,
and how metaphor and desire are related.
