Tina to Getting Off: Stage-Based Interventions for Gay
and Bisexual Men who Use Methamphetamine

Methamphetamine is the most widely used drug among gay and bisexual
men in San Diego. Presenters will teach the basics of
methamphetamine and present some innovative group-based
interventions they are implementing to assist men to decrease or
stop their meth use and related sexual risk behaviors. Outcome data
will also be presented.
Learning
Objectives:
The attendee will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate knowledge regarding methamphetamine use and associated
sexual risk behavior among gay and bisexual men.
2. Identify stages of readiness for change related to
methamphetamine use and appropriate treatment strategies.
3. Describe two local group-based interventions (a harm
reduction/support group and an intensive outpatient treatment
intervention) for gay and bisexual men and their outcomes.
4. Discuss clinical issues related to these interventions.
